Interpack 2026: Seda presents the new frontiers of food packaging at Interpack
Less food waste, greater safety, longer shelf life, improved recyclability and new consumer experiences. At Interpack 2026, the world’s leading packaging trade fair taking place in Düsseldorf from 7 to 13 May, Seda will present the new frontiers of paper-based food packaging through high-performance proprietary solutions capable of redefining the potential of fibre in food packaging.
The paper-based packaging supply chain is a true pillar of European manufacturing, generating over €110 billion in turnover and employing around 700,000 people directly.
At the exhibition, the Italian Group will showcase innovations developed to improve food preservation, optimise industrial logistics and meet the new sustainability demands of the food & beverage industry. The new paper-based barrier structures and mono-material solutions deliver high technical performance without relying on non-recyclable multilayer structures, anticipating the criteria of the latest European packaging regulations.
Among the innovations presented at Interpack 2026 is Double Wall, the first paper cup featuring an air chamber between two paper layers to ensure maximum thermal insulation. The technology developed by Seda eliminates condensation and humidity, improves comfort and grip during use, and keeps beverages and food at the ideal temperature for longer, transforming packaging into an integral part of the consumer experience.
Seda will also present the new Da Vinci Clamshell, a paper-based burger packaging solution developed according to a “tailored around the burger” geometry. Its innovative design improves product integrity and stability, prevents the burger from falling apart during consumption, and facilitates both preparation and handling, ensuring a more functional and consistent user experience.
Among the most innovative solutions showcased by Seda at Interpack 2026 is also the new Flat Rim Cup –10%, a paper-coated yogurt packaging solution containing less than 10% polymer content and fully recyclable within the paper stream, including in the UK market.
“Innovation and sustainability,” said Antonio D’Amato, Chairman and CEO of Seda International Packaging Group, “are decisive factors for us. Eco-design has always been the guiding principle behind Seda’s entire product development process. This means designing solutions from the very beginning that combine industrial performance, consumer experience and full recyclability. True innovation stems precisely from this ability to integrate sustainable materials, advanced technologies and end-of-life requirements into one coherent industrial process. In this sense, packaging becomes a genuine technology applied to the product. And it is this approach that is enabling paper today to reach increasingly advanced levels of application in food packaging.”
Packaging performs a number of essential functions: it protects food throughout the supply chain, contributes to public health and safety, reduces waste and enables large-scale distribution. Without packaging, the conditions required to guarantee quality, safety and accessibility of food products would simply not exist.
One of the areas where packaging makes the greatest contribution is in the fight against food waste. Globally, 10% of greenhouse gas emissions are linked to food waste. In Europe alone, more than 58 million tonnes of food are wasted every year, equal to around 130 kg per capita.
The issue is not our ability to produce food, but our ability to preserve and distribute it efficiently. Improving shelf life and protecting food means reducing losses and, consequently, reducing the waste of natural resources, energy and labour.
Seda’s stand at Interpack has been designed as an immersive experience divided into three major areas — Ice Cream, Food Industry and Food Service — showcasing the main industrial applications of paper packaging.
In the Ice Cream segment, Seda presents stackable paper containers and double-wall solutions combining technical performance, visual impact and consumer experience, improving comfort, shelf visibility and distribution logistics. In the Food Industry sector, the focus is on new paper-based flexible structures and advanced barrier containers for coffee, snacks, bakery products, ready meals and dry foods, developed to guarantee high preservation performance and extended shelf life. In Food Service, attention is centred on integrated cup-and-lid systems with reduced plastic content or fully plastic-free solutions, designed to improve sustainability, functionality and user experience in line with evolving European regulations.
Founded in 1964, Seda International Packaging Group is today one of the world’s leading food packaging companies, with around 3,000 employees, 13 production plants across Europe and North America, and more than 100 million consumers using Seda packaging every day worldwide. More than 45% of the Group’s turnover derives from products covered by patents or proprietary technologies.
